William Lee Golden! WOW what a honor it was to be able to go to his home and talk. William is so gracious and made me feel like I was welcome there anytime. This is a guy that has had a career many dream of. A Oak Ridge Boy since 1965 and you won’t believe all the different people he has sang with and for. He is a awesome painter and lots of his art is around the house and really good stuff. We talk about everything in music, the plantation that he calls his home, I even ask him about his beard and if he IS a mountain man. You are NOT gonna want to miss this show friends. I have been saving it for after the holidays and such cause I did not want you to miss it. So here is to a wonderful Man, a wonderful Family and a wonderful career!

Well friends it’s just hard to believe. 2011 is gone, history, vapor, and now we start a brand new year. 2012! WOW does that look weird or what? We were home for this new years eve like last year and I could get used to that. I like being at the house with family and friends. Lots of fun! Like last year the kids had friends over and Deanna and I had a couple of our close friends over and had some homemade Lasagna and then a BIG game of Scrabble, which I WON Ha! After their spanking we just sit in front of the TV waiting for the ball to drop and 2012.

We got up this morning and went to church to start the year out and so glad we did. Nothing like starting things out in the house of the Lord. The message really helped me with some resolutions for the year. I have the usual ones like, diet, exercise…….I know you know what I mean, but, this year I am going to add Hospitality, yes you read right. Hospitality! Can you imagine the difference in this world if we all turned it up a couple of clicks in that department? Well I am going to give it a go. I also want to read the entire bible this year. i know that last part doesn’t seem like a big deal but for a guy that is not fond of reading it is, man is it ever………..

I am pumped about some of the stuff that we have been in the studio recording for RIO and things that are going on for The Dana Williams Show. I got some things brewing that can and will be really cool so stay tuned. I want to say a big thanks to 650am WSM radio for letting me have a hour every Monday to have fun. What a thrill that is for me each and every week. I encourage you to go to their facebook page and tell them if you like the DW show and who knows I might talk them in to 2 hours ha ha.

Oh Yeah Baby! It’s Phil Vassar. Everybody loves Phil! What a talent he is too. Songwriter, piano player, singer and incredible personality. Him and I talked about doing this podcast at least a year before we finally got our schedules together and what a great time we had just talking about the music biz and life. Phil invited me out to his house one afternoon and he said just buzz me at the gate and I will let you in! The place was beautiful and when I got out of the car all I heard was hammers banging and saws rockin’ and rolling and then a big “Dana, What’s Happening Man?” Phil at the front door ready to rock. He showed me around the house and what all he was doing to the place, restoring and yard work. Seemed like it was the place to be if you want to WORK. As you hear him say at the end of the podcast, ” It’s great but a lot of work”

Dana Williams Show on WSM 650 AM Radio Plays Outlaw music on Sept 12. This radio show aired today in Nashville at 2 pm.

“Playing ‘legal outlaws’ music today”, said Dana Williams.

We first hear the one and only and one of the original outlaws in country music, Waylon Jennings singing one of his popular songs…then Waylon’s wife, sweet Jessi Colter singing, ‘I’m Not Lisa’…(Nancy’s note: That one really takes us back, love the song, haven’t heard it lately.)

Next is Merle and Willie with ‘Pancho and Lefty’..
(Nancy’s note: one of our absolute favorites!…’skin like iron, breath like kerosene’….we just wonder where singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt came up with those words!)

“Put Another Log on the Fire (Male Chauvinist National Anthem)” by Tompall Glaser…(Tompall was born September 3, 1933). This song charted at #21 and was from his album Tompall (Sings the Songs of Shel Silverstein).

Dana: said, “I toured with Tompall and the Glaser Brothers back in the 1980′s…we went to England and played 18 cities in 21 days, was that a tour! …played a lot of poker, lot of cards…”

Reflecting on 9/11

As I sit here in Bossier City Louisiana I turned the TV on and see all of the different channels, doing the same thing. Remembering 9/11/2001….. just as I do. Actually for the past week we all have been seeing the pictures and videos from that terrible day and it brings back such memories.
On that day Diamond Rio was having our normal annual golf tournament at Hermitage Golf Course in Hermitage Tenn.to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Everyone was gathering, Arbys was there, Outback folks was there starting to cook for lunch and the dinner, golfers were coming out of the woodwork visiting, getting their stuff together finding their carts and team members on a beautiful day. Just like years past, it was going to be a wonderful day and then I noticed everyone starting to gather inside the clubhouse and a silence coming over everyone. I go inside and all the laughing and chaos had stopped. We all felt glued to the TV and couldn’t believe our eyes and ears. Such a change of priority and mood. As the attacks continued the disbelief grew stronger and stronger as with everyone in America. As time went by and tragedies just kept coming the time of decision was on us. Folks were upset, crying, mad, confused and ready to play golf. We had to decide weather to go forward or just cancel the day. We decided to pray and move forward and not let the terrorist continue to win. We all came to do good for Big Brothers Big Sisters and if we pack up and go home then they continue to do harm. We prayed for strength and love for our country and did our best to move forward. We had some roast beef, ate some Outback chicken for dinner and raise a bunch of money for a great cause. You did NOT win at our little golf tournament.
This is just one more story like so many others where we did NOT let them win. We did NOT roll over and give up. No No, just like America has always and will always do. The instant you attack us and think you have won, we come together in masses and begin standing strong together and WILL win. No mortal beings will ever destroy this country. You may sting us and shock us for a moment but you better run and hide and enjoy your remaining days. You have brought America together as one, again, to make your worst nightmare. Unreal how such horrible acts of Satan can create such power.
We as a band travel this wonderful country and see just how blessed we all are. We have met so many that lost loved ones and heard so many stories of how “One More Day” and “In God We Still Trust” has been used to help folks remember and mourn. I feel so blessed and proud to be a American. God Bless all of the families and friends of the ones we lost and God Bless American. Dana

I have known Marty for a lot of years and to get the chance to sit down with him and just be one on one is truly a honor. He has accomplished so much in his life. Singer, Songwriter, Photographer, Producer, Collector, has his own TV show and to top it all, married Connie Smith! What a career,what a story and What a Guy. Marty may be able to dig into the music business deeper than anyone I know and on this show that is exactly what he does and you and me get to hear all about it. His passion for the history of Country Music and the memorabilia is unreal. He has sang #1 records, written #1 records, had gold records, won MANY Grammy awards, #1 TV show on RFD and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have this show to share with you. This was a cold day in February of 2011 sitting in his office in Hendersonville Tn. I truly know you are going to enjoy part 2 of 2. I know I’ll be listening again cause this is some GOOD STUFF!

A recap of today’s ‘Dana Williams show’ which aired today at 2 pm CT on WSM 650 AM in Nashville – August 29, 2011.

Dana Williams started out his ‘Dana Williams Show’ today by playing a classic Hank Williams, Sr. (no relation to Dana) ‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry’. (That is a tear-jerker everytime we hear it!)

Then he played Porter Wagoner (August 12, 1927 – October 28, 2007) and the WagonMasters song titled, ‘The Dream’ which was recorded about a year before Porter passed away.

Dana said today’s show is based on Porter’s song ‘The Dream’ as, in this song, Porter said he had a dream that he went to heaven and saw so many of his old friends that he had played with on the Grand Ole Opry. As he called them by name, we got a glimpse of the artists we would be hearing today on the Dana Williams Show on WSM AM radio.

Lester Flatt with one song we hadn’t heard in years, singing ”Cabin on the Hill’. (Great choice on that one, Dana!)

The one and only ET singing ‘Walking the Floor Over You’ brought back lots of good memories of hearing Mr. Ernest Tubb on the Opry late at night.

Johnny Cash and June Carter with a great favorite song of ours, singing ‘Jackson’.

‘I Was Raised on Country Sunshine’, by Miss Country Sunshine herself, Miss Dottie West.

Roy Acuff with the song he always sang on the Opry, ‘Wabash Cannonball’.

One of our very favorite singers, Mr. Marty Robbins, with ‘El Paso’.

Skeeter Davis, (December 30, 1931 – September 19, 2004), ‘The End of the World’ which was a hit in 1963.

Waylon Jennings, who said he ‘hated this song the first time he heard it’ – ‘but because you love it, I’ll play it one more time for you today’….Dana says: It’s ‘Luckenbach Texas’, and I’m playing it for you today!

‘Mr. Sandman’ …..by the original Mr. Guitar man of Nashville, Mr. Chet Atkins.

Mother Maybelle and the Carter Family and Bashful Brother Oswald….’I'm Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes’.

Dana’s bandmate in Diamond Rio, Jimmy Olander often gets asked ‘who is the woman on your guitar’? Dana said that it is Mother Maybelle Carter on Jimmy’s guitar.

Then hearing ‘Jumping’ Bill Carlisle of the Carlisle Family, and one of his popular songs, “Is That You, Myrtle?” made us think of the many, many times we heard ‘Jumping’ Bill performing on the Grand Ole Opry late at night.

‘ Leaving On Your Mind’, by Miss Patsy Cline brought back some old memories of hearing her on the radio in early years.

The show today closed out with “Satisfied Mind”, by Mr. Porter Wagoner, then Elvis Presley with one of our old favorites, ‘Treat Me Nice”.

WOW guys! This show is really special to me with my guest RONNIE RENO. Here is a guy that has had a great career full of really cool stuff. He is the son of the Bluegrass great “Don Reno” of “Reno and Smiley” a very musical family and started playing very young. Played with The Osborne Brothers and Merle Haggard when both we’re in their prime. Lots of song writing. Plays about anything he wants to and sings great. Has a legendary name and has carried on the tradition of great music his whole life. Now days he has his own television show on RFD TV “Reno’s Old Time Music Festival” and his own channel, “BlueHighways TV”. I just wish we had the time to tell all of his stories. I have known Ronnie along time and I hope you all can get to know him just a little better in this show. As you can tell I could sit and talk with him for hours so……. Let’s get to it!

Here is a guy that has had a lot of success in many ways. He has been in the great band “Exile” since Hitler was a corporal, and all along the way writing and co-writing most of their biggest hits. Then after that, he was in the band “Burnin Daylight” and continued writing songs and having hits on folks like Clay Walker, Restless Heart, and Diamond Rio. He is one of those guys that you like the minute you meet him and this show is going to prove it. We talk about everything from “Kiss you all Over” to what is going on right now in his career. As many of you know Rhonda is one of those people that you have known all your life the instant you meet her. Just good people I tell ya. 1-1-11 i just had to……….

Hey guys,
Happy New Year to all of you reading this. I just got to thinking about the date today. Looks cool and real easy to type it out, that’s for sure. I guess in a 100 years they will be able to do it again. Interesting thought ain’t it.
This is one new years eve I shall remember. First thing, I was at home. That’s different right there, but for a guy that hasn’t been home on new years very often I always thought that if I were home we would be at a party or someone’s house, or just doing something out on the biggest party night of the year, but………………. let me tell you about my new years eve 2010.
Deanna and I went about 3:30pm to Shane’s Rib Shack to eat like a lunch-supper type of thing with my parents. Got home about 4:30-5:00pm and then around 7pm or so daughter Cara had several friends over for a movie party-sleep over downstairs. Up stairs is where the real rocking was going on though. Get ready cause this is heavy stuff here. I mean UNREAL!
Deanna and I did a little Farmville and Facebook for a while and then around 10pm we started playing Rummy and, yeah there’s more, AND watch a “Jaws” marathon all the way to 3-3:30am. Oh yeah AND yes we kissed at midnight when the ball dropped in Times Square. Then we went to bed and slept til 10 or 10:30am new years day. Now are you still breathing? I mean I know this is intense stuff here but I just had to share it with you. Here’s the big thing, I REALLY enjoyed every minute of it. The 2 of us had the time of our lives and so did the kids downstairs. Boy are we easy to please or what? HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 !
I would love it and I bet others would too if you shared your new years eve night of 2010. That is, if you had as much fun as we did. I look forward to reading all about it.

To Comment, Or Not To Comment ? That is the Question

Sitting here in a hotel room in Mankato MN. and I just got to thinking about the comments I have received on this web site and the ones I have NOT. Comments are very interesting to me. It seems if there is no place to give a idea, opinion, or complaint then we are always wishes there was and if there is a place then we either blow off the opportunity or think “I will get to that” and never do. Now I got to tell you all that out of all the comments and emails I have gotten from this web site there has only been 1 that was negative in anyway and all the others have been show idea’s, saying Hello, or just liking certain guest and just pure encouragement to keep doing the show because they are enjoying it. Now I don’t know about you but I find that to be amazing! Just 1?! I love it cause that tells me that I am doing something that you guys are liking and wanting to hear more of and that makes me grin A LOT!
Now all this comes to mind because just the other day I was reading something and at the end I had my chance to comment and yes, like most of you I blew it off and thought I’ll do that later. Later never came. Want to know why? Cause I forgot what web site it was and now I have really forgotten even what I was reading. it was probably about some politics or news how people just DON”T HAVE THE RIGHT TO…….sorry gettin carried away there. Goober I am ! The other thing is this. Comments are really important to the person doing the web site or news story or show like I am doing and for the ones reading or listening. It is a direct link to one another. Sometimes they can even be way more entertaining than the story itself. Well anyway, almost time to jump in the shower and head down to the show and play for the folks here in Mankato. I guess I said all that to say this. I love these sites with comment options on them and I am going to make it a point to use them more often and I want you all to do the same. We have now been members of the Grand Ole Opry going on 13 years and for most of that time the General Manager of the Opry Has been Pete Fisher. You might have seen him on TV introducing new members to the Opry or special occasions of some sort but he is and has been a very special guy to the Opry. He has made great changes and brought the Opry to places no one would have ever thought, such as Carnegie Hall, New York City, Television. Needless to say the Opry is his passion but there is a lot more to him than just the Opry. This is a fellow that I have known since 1987 or so when he was the premiere demo singer in Nashville. Go figure though, as Meet in the Middle was going up the charts in 1991 so was his first single “Only Here For A Little While”. Yes friends that’s right. I’m talking about none other than, Billy Dean! One of the most talented guys in Nashville. Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Producer, I’m telling you it doesn’t get any better. In this show you will learn what his real name is, what he is doing today, a new CD he has out and he may even pick a guitar up and sing for you right in the middle of it all! Rhonda Vincent! Wow where do I start? I met Rhonda in passing several years ago and just recently we became friends on Facebook and that’s when I started paying attention. I kept seeing her post and seeing her pictures and from that I started to get to know her. I know, kind of weird, but no joke thru Facebook I got to know her personality, her music, her likes and dislikes, I swear it seemed like I had known her for years so I sent her a message and ask her if she would come and be on my show. She immediately said, “Sure Thing,just tell me when” so after getting our 2 schedules together she sent me a picture of her walking out the door and sure enough 35 minutes later she was standing at my door bearing some Martha White Goodies! She came in and Me, my wife Deanna and her started right in talking like we had known one another for years. She was and is everything I thought she would be and more. Well guys here ya go. A guy that I met early in my Rio career and the beginning of his. So early in his that he even rode our crew bus on some shows that he was opening. He is such a incredible talent now and then. My gosh the first time I heard him on stage it completely blew me away and then when the hits started coming from him I just knew this guy is special. His career took off like crazy and ours kept on chuggin’ and we kind of lost touch for a few years but over the last year we have re-connected so one day this past winter I called him and ask him to would come over and lets play some music and visit and he said ABSOLUTELY! I am so proud he said yes and to have him on the Dana Williams Show not to mention him bringing his new cd“Dustbowl Dreams”. This is a record that he poured his heart and soul into. The writing, the recording, the producing, the mixing, the everything! Man it’s good! I want you all to just sit back and be the fly on the wall AND find out just what it really was like to sing with SHANIA! Ladies and Gentleman, This is Bryan White!

“Cluster”

After watching last nights ACM awards show I thought it only appropriate to write a few words about such things. Doing TV shows is one thing, such as The Tonight Show or The 700 Club and shows like that but award shows is a completely different animal. Imagine a doctor having 30 patience’s showing up on the same evening all needing surgery in the same 3 hour block and all of them have something different in every way wrong with them. Oh yeah and it all has to be done in the same room too. Can you imagine for just a moment what a Cluster that would be? Whew! Yes, at the award shows they do start rehearsing like a week or two before the show airs but believe me it is unreal how much crap is going on at the same time and let me tell you when the director says GO, when you are on LIVE television, you GO! ready or not. Some of the situations we have been in like hearing them introduce us and I can look down and see that my microphone and guitar is not plugged in to anything and some crew guy come crawling out from under the drum riser trying to figure out the problem. Yes, take a moment and think about that. Things like that have happened more than once to us on different shows. Just think about all the different sets and production you saw last night. Things like, a choir, big video screens, A guy falling in a big tank of water, Dancers, Different ones floating all over the building coming from the back to the front, moving lights all over, pyro going off, 2-3 maybe 4 different stages. Wireless frequencies flying out all over the place. Also there is all of the sound feeds that are happening, a monitor console, front house console and a television console. Unbelievable how much is going on at the same time with one guy on a radio saying GO, like it or not. hence the issue last night with the supposed very last Brooks and Dunn performance. The front house and monitors were on but it took until the halfway point of the song, My Maria, that the (fans,viewers) voted they sing, before Ronnie’s vocal Mic came on in the Television mix. WOW! What a screw up. There is always a problem at those shows with the monitors, the mix that the singers and band hear. Monitors is the most critical part of the sound for the singers and band. If they can’t hear their self, it is going to SUCK, I promise. You may notice a lot of different singers reach up and pull one of their earbuds out. That is nothing except, they are struggling trying to hear and they know if they don’t try to help it by trying to hear the house or, anything at all, they WILL suck!
Sometimes you may notice that the band is really not playing everything your hearing and you think HEY MAN, they are not really playing? Well that is only done in some cases just to try and simplify the cluster effect and, the ones that do that hate doing it but sometimes it is the only saving grace. In case you were wondering the singing is 98% of the time live, hence the struggle. Until we played a few of these I always thought if I heard someone sound bad then that was it. They Suck and my opinion of them would start to drop like a anchor but now after going to and playing many of these types of shows it amazes me that before one is over there is not some sort of explosion or a killin’. i could soooo see somebody like a Kidrock or Hank Jr. just take their guitar off and throw it at the monitor man sitting just off stage and just continue to beat him in the ground and it all be caught on TV for us all to see. Believe me it gets that frustrating. It truly is amazing to see it go down as well as it does. Now, there is a flip side to this coin.

The ACM’s is a Dick Clark Production. They have been doing this for years and doing many award shows. As far as that goes the productions companies that do these shows are always the same people year after year and think of all the different award shows. The Grammys, ACM, American Music Awards, MTV awards, Country Weekly had a show, Music City News had one, CMA, Dove awards and I’m sure I’m forgetting some. You would think after all these shows. I think last night was the 45th ACM? All these shows, one would think they would have it down to a science. With the technology of today and equipment that can be and is automated? Sorry, I’m going to have to stop, I can feel myself starting to get all worked up and MAD about it. And furthermore what on earth could have taken the guy so durn long to turn Ronnie’s Mic on last night. The song starts, he begins to sing, the guy does not hear the voice, he reaches over and hits the un-mute button and BAM, it’s a miracle, your a genuis. But nnnnoooooo! Just couldn’t happen. And then wait, let’s just cut a dude off right in mid sentence when he is trying to accept an award, one of the biggest moments of his life possibly, and somebody said cue the music and he’s out of there. WOW that tics me off! Sorry but to me there is NO excuse for that crap and here’s the best part of all. They will hire the same dudes next year to do the same jobs. And we wonder why they never seem to get better. Go Figure!

The GOOD news to all of this as I see it is:
Lots of exposure for lots of Country Music and without fail record sales always soar after a show like this and we see and hear a lot of new stuff. So my hope is that no matter what, it is good for Country Music, the artist, the business, the record labels, and all the sponsors.
My favorite performance last night: Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood
Most deserving award: Lady A for song and group
Most disappointing performance:Brooks and Dunn, Taylor Swift
Most disappointing award: Miranda Lambert for Female vocalist, with Carrie in the house? Are you Kidding me?

Ok guys I know that I have said things like legend, hero, great friend, singer, song writer, musician before but this weeks guest has a special spot in my heart like very few do. I have loved his music and pickin’ for longer than him or I care to think about. I got the opportunity to meet and get to know this man when he signed a record deal with Arista Records when we were there. I got the chance to record with him and celebrate Merle Haggard going into the “Country Music Hall of Fame” by his side. What a unbelievable honor for me. I wish there was a way I could explain in words, exactly how I feel about this guy.
Steve Wariner is one of the nicest guys in my life and in Country Music. He came to my house,brought his guitar and we hung out and even took some picture’s and I had the recorder running the whole time just for you. What a wonderful moment in time for me. Here is my friend Steve Wariner!

OK OK I know, I have been quite for like a month and yes I am very sorry. We were on a 3 week road trip and I just have not had the chance to get a new show posted but I am back and so is the show. I got some great guests coming your way that I have already done and waiting on call backs on several more that I know are going to be great. MAN I have fun doing this! I should have done this long ago. I have also been working some at the WSM studios and have recorded 4 shows for them. The first one will air on March 25th at 2pm on The Legend 650 AM WSM. He is a great singer,songwriter and piano player in a band that could be bluegrass, country, R&B, folk or whatever they need to be I guess.

So over the past several months we have been doing alot of traveling going from town to town just like we have for the past 20 years. On Sept.22 we had a new CD come out and therefore that creates even more travel, doing as much promotion as we can possibly do. Going to New York to do some TV and press things. We were in VA. doing the 700 Club and out to orange co. in California to be on the “Hour Of Power” at the Crystal Cathedral. Any way you get the idea, I don’t want to spell out our entire schedule. Needless to say we have been on quite a few airplanes lately and I just find several things mighty interesting. I hear in the news and have been hearing for quite a while how alot of different airlines are in such trouble financially and as I walk thru these different airports across this wonderful country of ours I see all these gates abandoned where airlines have had to downsize or go OUT of business and part of me gets sad and I truly hate to see it happen…………..BUT…………………
We flew out of VA. just recently and when we got up that morning it was raining and after the show we did that morning we went straight to the airport to catch our flight back home to Nashville. Our flight was out of VA. to Atlanta and then to Nashville which that is reason for a completely different blog but, once at the airport we hear that there is a small delay because of weather in Atlanta, keep in mind this is Delta airlines. I know mistake #1! This small delay turns into like 90 minutes or more and of course now we are very worried about our connection in Atlanta but we were told no worries there because this delay is because of Atlanta so all planes will be delayed and your flight will be there cause it will be delayed as well. We finally leave and get to Atlanta and immediately find a Delta person, ask them our gate and they tell us B28. We arrived at C22. Now if you have ever been to Atlanta airport then you know that is like a 20 min. walk and a shuttle ride away but off we go because they said the plane had not left yet. We get to B28 and the DELTA person tells us no I’m sorry they changed that gate to C26 but we can still make it so off we go right back where we were to start with and after a 20 min. walk and a shuttle ride we get to C26 to then be told by a DELTA person, OH NO I’m sorry that gate is B32. Now needless to say we are not very happy at this point but there is so much Chaos in this airport because of all the delays and we are in such a hurried state trying to get to this plane we just take this on the chin AGAIN and head off to B32, 4 gates from where we just were. After 20min. and another shuttle ride we are coming up on B32 and we are not seeing hardly any people at all and the sign is not saying Nashville anywhere so I, now wet with sweat as you can clearly see coming thru my shirt, go up the DELTA person behind the desk and ask again, We were told that this is the gate for the Nashville flight, has it loaded or is there another gate change and please can you tell us the correct gate for this is our 4th trip? The DELTA person very calmly looks at me and says, Oh that flight left a hour and a half ago SIR. I say well I have talked to you 4 other DELTA people wearing your same outfit and they said that it had not and have been running us all over this airport for the last 45 min. or more, and she said. SIR, you should never pay attention to anything anybody tells you in one of these outfits, you should always just look at the screens place all over the airport. That is what they are there for SIR and I said, WHAT? Are you kidding me? She said there are 3 more flights leaving this evening but one of them has been canceled but there are 2 others that I can give you ticket request for but that is in no way a promise of getting on either of those flights and remember we are not responsible for anything that happens do to weather. So I say, let me get this straight. Your telling me that our flight that we have been told by many DELTA people is still here, has been gone and there are 2 others flights that go to Nashville tonight but you can’t guarantee us seats on and your going to give us ticket request in case there is room on either flight and none of this is your fault and we should never listen to anyone wearing a outfit like yours but only pay attention to the screens ? And she said yes SIR that is correct. So here we stand at 4:30 pm and the next flight leaves at 7:05pm and then another at 8pm and just for fun those flights leave from C24. At this time she is printing out the ticket request and we are not very happy campers to say the least and as she hands me the requests she says, Oh and SIR on days like these it would do you well to practice a little patience if you don’t mind! I’ll give you a moment on that one folks!

On that note with no hesitation and just before I rammed those ticket requests down her throat we instantly went to the rent-a-car place and rented two SUV’s for only $500 and drove to Nashville only to arrive at the airport to return the cars and find out that we beat our luggage by 2 hours and had to sit and wait on it to get there so we could get it ready to leave the next morning for where ever it was we were going, sorry at this moment I just can’t remember where it was. I got home about 1am and you can only imagine the fun that day had been!
This was all on a airline that is just dying for business and charges their customers $20 for a checked bag and $30 for the second. $4 for a 25ct bag a pretzels and some of the highest rates you can find anywhere but you do get a reserved seat assignment! For the life of me with all this wonderful customer service why would they be hurting for business? I just don’t understand it?
Here’s a thought, How about every airline that charges for luggage and pretzels and has people that we should not listen to wearing uniforms, EAT ME and everybody that looks like me, and you deserve whatever you get in this hard time that everyone is going thru and if you think I sound a little too harsh and rude well the good news is for you, this blog entry is OVER!
The Moral is: Fly SOUTHWEST or Drive!

I’m sitting here in a hotel in Lynchburg VA. and thinking about my up coming High School reunion. This is my 30th year since I have been in High School and just like my Daddy has told me all my life,time has flown by. Where did it all go? It’s just so hard to believe. I know we all have some of these same thoughts and I know that it is the best alternative but man O man 30 YEARS? I still remember thinking when I was in High School that old people were 30. Here I am 48 and think I am still a young man for all practical purpose. I am about to see some folks that I haven’t seen or heard from in 30 years and at one time in my life I saw them every single day. Took them for granted more less and now I bet I see some of them and don’t even recognize their face. Funny how life can do that to us all and change us to the point where people don’t even know you, that saw you every day for years. And what about that deal there? What happens when you graduate and still all live right there in the same town and just NEVER see or talk to any of these people that you shared so much with for so long, I might add the longest years of your life too. I know we all move on in life and jobs and college take us to other places but man alive, there is a lot that still live right there in your town that I bet you haven’t seen in years. Something is BAD wrong with that and not sure I will ever understand it. We have had 2 reunions up til now. One at 10 yrs. and one at 20 and I have not been able to make either one of them. Why? Work why else. It will sure be good to see and hear about some of these folks and what their life has turned into. I just hope the next time some of these folks see one another is because they just want to hang out instead of mourning the loss of one like has happened way to many times. I know life gets busy with kids and their needs, and work and travel but there is nothing like friends, and old ones are the best ones ever. You know I’m right !
Just had this on my mind and thought I would just write it down. I got some people to call and tell them to get their butt in gear so I will get mine in gear too and let’s do lunch and quit talking about it and DO IT!

The Moral? Whatever it is, DO IT before you CAN’T ! til next time, Dana

On this weeks show I talk about a few things that have just happened and really bothered me and in one case even got me MAD! We got some great songs and I also played our newest single ” God Is There”. I played some request I had thru email and still can’t believe how much fun I am having doing this.

Gas and Grass

As I sit here typing on the computer I hear Josh outside cutting the grass(My Yard). Josh is the dude that we get to cut the grass when I am out of town or just too durn busy to do it myself. So here I am at home with not alot to do and I hear him out doing my job and my $ being spent. Now let me say for about 3 weeks now we have found a reason to call Josh because everytime I went to cut the grass the gas can was empty and I would say, I got to take that can and fill it so I can cut the grass but one thing led to the other and I would go out of town and yes the bride would call Josh and it would all be pretty when I got home. Well 2 weeks ago i finally left the house and was on the way to the gas station and I stopped, turned around and went back to the house just to get the can and took it with me so I would finally have gas for the mower. I brought it home and believe it or not I did get a little sick, not sick enough to not be able to cut the grass but wasn’t feeling 100% for sure. So I put off what should have been done, I guess, to long and yes before I know it Josh has done my job and now I thinking, I don’t even have the lack of gas to blame it on but, I’m sick, that’s it! So another week goes by and can you believe all the luck? I’m out of town and getting ready for this new CD to come out and she calls Josh again and I don’t think much about it and just let it go and it seemed to slip by to no one’s attention so…….
So this week the wife goes out of town and I am home for like 2 days all by myself. Nothing to do much except regular daily stuff and I’m thinking, man I am going to get on that yard before she gets home and make it all nice. I mean I got the gas and the time so I might as well knock it out!
The only issue I have to deal with is rain. It has been raining here like for 2 and half weeks every single day and cutting the grass with it so wet will be like wearing a lawn mower for swimming trunks, so I wait a day or so and hope for the best. Still have yet to use any of the gas I bought weeks ago mind you. The wife gets home last night, I pick her up at the airport and it was so good to see her. We go to dinner, come home and watch some TV and go to bed. Laying there I’m thinking I know it rained last night but maybe today while she is at work I can take care of this lagging ball and chain that I have been carrying now for WAY to long. Well the morning comes and she is up and rockin’ and off to work she goes and I am doing my normal morning things. I get done with my cereal and out of the shower and sit down to check email before trying to take care of the grass and what do I hear? Like I said earlier, Josh is hard at it!
Moral:
If you can’t keep gas in your can, at least keep Josh’s cell number in your speed dial!

I sit here this Monday morning and wonder what is it that creates the likes of things that happened last night on the awards show. I wasn’t even watching it. I was sitting in my chair wife by my side watching the Ladies tennis finals and computer in my lap surfin around and I see the word begin to spread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evY2_Ibgai4 there ya go if you haven’t seen what I’m talking about. This Kanye West guy? What,who,why is this guy even in the music biz. I realize this guy is prolly talented and has sold some records and done well but was he like a runaway or something? Had no one,no parents ,no person of any authority in his life whatsoever? How else can it be explained how someone of what appears to be in a adult status possibly be that rude, disrespectful, mean, de-grading, embarrassing and just plain out stupid on a open stage in front of millions of people on Television in someone else’s spotlight? I have slept on it and for the life of me I can’t think of anything with any logic to it at all. Was he stoned,high,drunk or just plain stupid. Now here’s the deal. I’m not necessarily a fan of Kanye or Taylor or Beyonce but Taylor is a very VERY young girl on a very special magic carpet ride right now and the things that she is doing in this business has got to be respected no matter who you are. This girl is Rockin and doing what everyone at that awards show would like to be doing even Kanye West or he would not have been there unless he is stupid. Taylor handled it, I guess, as good as anyone could other than maybe Robin Williams and Beyonce did give her her moment back and because of all of this it could and will make me give Taylor, Beyonce and even Robin Williams another shot to make me a fan. For I have a spot in my fandom bag, shoot maybe even 2 spots. But see Kanye has not a shot. Cause see now I think he is stupid. We have all heard all of our life that you never stop learning and see one more time that comes true. In fact millions of us learned something all at the same time. We learned how it felt to be in the presence of a true blue, as real as it gets, Stupid person. See I bet most of us thought we knew but last night really taught us that we never knew, we just thought we did. Now we know for sure. It does sadden me that Taylor had to learn this is such a way, so early in life but she will be all the better for this lesson and so should the rest of us. I hope any of us never have to have this lesson again and Kanye West will be sent to a remote island deep in the pacific with a microphone and 2 pairs of sunglasses to spend the rest of his Stupid days and save us all from any more embarrassing, rude, disrespectful, mean, de-grading and Stupid moments. Course there is still Michael Moore, but let’s leave that for another day. If anyone has a better remedy please leave your suggestions in the comments.

The Ambrose Effect !

Well I just got to tell you guys about this past weekend. As you probably know we played the inaugural night race in Atlanta Sunday night. I took my wife Deanna and my son Jacob with me and what a day and night we had. Haven’t seen that boy of mine smile that big since he got his PS3 for Christmas.We got to the track and right out of the shoot we took some laps in a pace car and Jacob sat right up front and was loving every minute of it. We hung out in the garage area a while and then we played our show at 5:30 but then the highlight of the day came. It was time for driver introductions and as they made their way to the stage one by one i could tell Jacob was really diggin it. Now he had met Tony Stewart before and talked with him and was wanting to see him again but I think he was in over load when all of them started showing up. We all wanted to see Tony, he has been our pal for a while and will always be #1 at our house but since I saw one of the first interviews with Marcos Ambrose I could just tell he was a good dude and I wanted to meet him. Now I have met several stars of all different kinds over the years and have learned that your impression of a person on TV and meeting them in person can be extremely different. That is one very vulnerable spot because that person you want to meet can very quickly let you down like nothing else and just destroy all the good you had been thinking about that person. The moment had come and I was meeting and talking with Marcos and I must tell you how happy I am to tell you that he is one of the nicest guys you can ever meet. Very sincere and likable from the instant you say Hello. He was so good to my boy it was just unreal. Just like that, he made life long fans. Amazing how that works isn’t it. I have said for years that it takes such a extra effort to be a jerk to people and comes so easy just to be “nice” ! Now don’t get me wrong. I know these guys are pulled at from every angle, from every person they see from the minute they come out in the open to the minute they go back to there private world. There is always someone saying”come on, just one more”. I know I know this is the price of fame,this is why they make the big bucks and the rest of those sayings but believe me after years of “one more” it can get old. I realize Marcos is new in Nascar but NOT racing and winning, still I don’t see this guy ever getting to be a jerk. It’s just not in his person. I even told him how much I appreciated his attitude and approach to his fans and the media. He talked with Jacob like he had known him and was truly interested in what his interest was. Fans for Life we are. Believe me, Marcos Ambrose deserves all of the success coming to him in the future and it is on the way.

When stars of any kind meet with their fans, at that very moment is the time that a “star” can make or break that person feelings toward them. Some don’t care what you think and for them I have these parting words. I heard Celine Dion say one time that she loves people and loves to talk and visit with them and when those days come that she wakes up not feeling well or in a bad mood and whatever the issue,that is the days that she does not meet with folks for if that is her feelings then she doesn’t deserve to meet those very precious fans so she takes a break. I say to you all if you feel the need to be a jerk to other folks then “Take A Break” that is our individual responsibility. Remember it takes much more effort to be a jerk! OK end of sermon.

Mcdonald’s and SVU

Here it is,I’m going to say right here,right now where all can read. I am DONE with McDonald’s. They have had their last chance to make me fatter and unhealthy. Their burger meat makes me feel sick about 45 min. after I eat them. Their fries are WAYYYYY to salty and what exactly is a Mc Rib anyway? I have never won the monopoly game they play. I always get all of the ones I need except 1. I do get a ba-zillion of the same ones over and over. You can’t stop me and quit trying to change my mind, I’m thru, done, Ka-put! Now just drop it,let’s move on.
Don’t ya just love Law and Order:SVU. That’s got to be the best. I like some of the others but man SVU is really cool. You just got to love Mariska and Ice-T. Sweet or un-sweet you have to like Iced T. Not to mention you never see them eating at a McDonald’s. You know why? Cause their OVER them too. That fish sandwich and apple pie is mighty good though. Never know if you go to New York and go in a McDonald’s you could see Mariska sitting in a McDonald’s having a fish sandwich and a Ice-T. No, that’s it NO NO NO stop trying to change my mind,I am done with McDonald’s. Never again. ! I got to go this is just to upsetting. Oh Yeah SVU marathon on USA channel today. Dana

Monday 8-31-2009

Ok, the clock went off @ 6:20am and I thought someone had shot a Tomahawk Missile off in my bedroom. Why is it that has never gotten better thru my entire life? I just don’t do mornings that’s just all there is to it. I got the kids to school got back and did 35 minutes on the elliptical on level 5 I might add. I know that don’t sound like much but for me, believe me it’s A LOT! Had breakfast and now sitting here writing this and watching the movie “Twister” on TV. I still like Helen Hunt, Fly Dorothy Fly!!!
Working on Podcast 2 today and hope to get Mike Clute over here to help me set a couple of things up. i need some reverb I tell ya! I got the fan page up and going last night and I want to really encourage you guys that care to participate as much as possible. We are going to Washington this week and then to the Atlanta Speedway to do a show and the National Anthem for the very first Nascar race under the lights in Atlanta. Go Tony #14 all the way baby! Man do I love racing Whew! Remind sometime to tell you about the time Tony took my son and I a ride @ the track in a rent-a-car, Yeah buddy! Til next time, Have a “Tweet” on me ………………… Dana

The Beginning!

Here I sit on a Sunday afternoon getting this blog stuff all set up and just wondering if anyone will really use this. I really want you guys to for I think this can be the start of something really fun and different. Something to be a part of and share our likes and dis-likes. Talk about all the different kinds of music and how it affects our life and why. Just typing that,and it sounds interesting,don’t it? I have been thinking about doing these Podcast for a while now, how I would do them, where I would do them, about what and wonder if anyone would enjoy them. Well I just decided to do it and see if there was any interest whatsoever and if nothing else I would have fun, get to play with tech toys and go down memory lane and worry about the other stuff later. So,there ya have it. Guess I ought to go down to the garage and help Deanna do whatever it is she’s doing for if I don’t I may hear about it later!?!?!?!
Let’s get this thing started guys and see where it takes us so, HAVE FUN !
